About us

Our story starts in 1956 when the passionate farmer and agricultural scientist, Dr. Lorenz Mayr, acquired a lakeside dairy farm in Bernried. His wife Maria, who descended from a prominent Munich innkeeper family, instantly recognised the gastronomic potential of the pretty place and opened a small lakeside café. The picturesque guesthouse soon becomes a popular destination for tourists from near and far. In 1973 the quaint café expanded to become the Marina Lakeside Restaurant. The latter quickly became a favourite destination for the 300 boat owners in the Marina Yacht Club and other Munich gourmets. Between 1973 and 2001 the Marina Resort successively enlarged. It now includes a 4-star hotel with 90 rooms, a spa with indoor pool, Finnish sauna, gym, beauty and wellness treatments, 11 conference rooms, several event locations with a capacity of up to 300 guests and the Yacht Club.

The kitchen staff in the Lakeside Restaurant still relies on old family recipes from Maria Mayr. Our chefs have of course added a modern touch to them. The Bernried estate, which is also family-run in the third generation, provides the restaurant with its home-grown produce. The game is also sourced from the estate’s own hunting grounds.

During the winter of 2016/17 the architect Benedikt Sunder-Plassmann optically and technically modernised and expanded the restaurant. Highlights are the new lakeside patio and the Lakeside Function Room for all kind of events up to 200 persons. Our Bernried Farm Shop offers  locally-produced high-quality products for our guests. This compliments the special ambience of the Bernried Estate, which we hope you will enjoy.
